Silky Saiki ready to showcase her stuff in 2022-23

Lauren Saiki signs for 2022-23 season.

Returning for her second season with Cardiff Met after arriving from California, point guard Lauren Saiki has a full season of dominance in her sights. After missing early games in the schedule last year, Lauren settled in quickly, averaging 14.9 PPG (top 15 in the WBBL) and 7.8 APG (second in the WBBL) on her first professional team after her college career.

During her college career at UC Irvine, Lauren averaged 6.9 APG in her final season, which ranked third in the nation, and was the team’s leading scorer with 11.6 PPG as well. She graduated with two degrees from the university; a bachelor’s in Sociology and a master’s in Innovation and Entrepreneurship in 2020. She continues to study in Cardiff as well, currently working on a master’s degree in Digital Marketing Management.

A small guard, any illusion of her size being a detriment quickly disappears on the court. Her quick hands and aggressive defense cause havoc for the opposition, and the Archer defense dramatically improved every time she was on the floor. Lauren is a key part of the Archer offense, setting the tempo for each possession and creating shots in a dynamic offense that few others can do.

Saiki was raring to go, with the team 'blend' key in her mind.

"I’m really glad to be back and looking forward to having a full season with the Archers. I’m excited to get the season started with some new faces and great competition amongst the league and our team, and we’ve got a nice blend of experienced faces and young stars to keep us on our toes."

Head Coach, Stef Collins, enthused, “Lauren showed how good she is as soon as she arrived last year, and her ability to pass and move the ball make her one of the best guards in the league. She’s a great character, a tireless worker, and she’s settled into the Club with ease.”
