Roy returns for 2022-23

Beginning her second season with the Archers WBBL side, center/forward Carys Roy looks to build on her impressive first year and incredibly busy offseason.

In her first year in the WBBL, Carys averaged 13 minutes per game with 3.5 PPG and 3.6 RPG, making great strides as she played behind Mara Marchizotti.

Carys will look to build upon last season and step into a larger role this year. Her WNBL statistics could be a sign of things to come; for the Archers II side, she helped the team reach the playoffs while nearly posting a double-double each game, averaging 13.4 PPG, 9.2 RPG, and shooting over 50% from the field.

Over the summer, Carys has played in the U18 Four Nations Cardiff Tournament for Wales, the Commonwealth Games 3x3 Qualifiers with Wales, played in the Hoopsfix U19 All-Star Classic, was selected for the Basketball Without Borders Europe camp, and was named the Most Improved Player of the Archers WNBL side. She also played for GB U18 at the FIBA European Championships and the U18 3x3 World Cup alongside fellow WBBL returnee and friend, Carys Roy.

Carys has been continuing her development over the summer, with an ever-improving set of post moves and the toughness to drag down hard rebounds. She will look to continue her progression this season and help the Archers dominate the paint every game.

Roy said, “I’m really excited for this season ahead. Last year was a real learning experience, getting to play against the likes of Mara and Shannon every practice, and I’ve had a summer of international basketball as well to help me sharpen my skills. I’m looking forward to trying to make an impact for this team.”

WBBL Head Coach Stef Collins added, "Carys is one of the best prospects in the UK, and over recent years we’ve seen her take her game to the next level. She’s got great size and a tireless work ethic in practice and energy in games. We’re really excited to see how much more she can improve and to see her play a bigger role in our WBBL team.”
