Dave Owen Basketball sponsors Issy Bunyan

Dave Owen, of Dave Owen Basketball, has kindly donated a player sponsorship for Issy Bunyan, young Welsh star and WBBL/WNBL player for Cardiff Met Archers.

The Dave Owen Basketball logo will feature on Issy's warm-up top, as well as her player profile.

His basketball database aims to:

- raise the overall profile of British Basketball and make it more visible

- provide a platform giving current players the exposure to attract more opportunities to progress

- provide a platform recognising and celebrating the careers of notable former players

- provide previously unavailable information for players, coaches, clubs and content creators

- present information in a way that is accessible and engaging to those new to the sport

In her first full year at the WBBL level, Issy was a key role player for the Archers off the bench, averaging 21 minutes per game along with just over 7 PPG. She also averaged 4.4 RPG and 1.7 APG, and was second in the league with 1.7 blocks per game as a guard. At the WNBL level, she averaged 13.9 points per game along with 2.9 steals and 2.6 blocks per game, and was named in the WNBL D1 British Team of the Year.

Bunyan said, "I'm very grateful to Dave Owen for sponsoring me. He's always been a supporter of mine, and for him to recognise and appreciate my game, and to help support me through this sponsorship, is very special.

"Dave does a lot for basketball in the UK, and it's fantastic to have his support."

Dave Owen said, "Sponsoring a talented young homegrown British player has always been a goal of mine since I launched my DaveOwenBasketball.co.uk platform. It's my hope that the donations to support the website eventually reach a level to make player sponsorship possible annually. The current donations from patreon.com/daveowenbasketball are a long way off that, but I was able to secure additional funding from some wonderful people in the basketball community to make it possible for this season.

Then came the hard part of choosing just one player to sponsor! I felt the women's game needs the most support, and ideally wanted an U18 player involved in both WBBL and WNBL. I looked at Issy's stats for GB U18s this summer and her performance was comparable to Jo Leedham-Warner's in 2005 and Holly Winterburn's in 2018 when using my own performance rating metric.

Once I realised that, it became a very easy decision, particularly as I watched a lot of Issy in WBBL/WNBL last season and personally enjoy how she can impact the game in so many ways at both ends of the floor."
