Biography

Leah Evans was diagnosed at birth with hip dysplasia, nerve damage, scoliosis, chiari malformation and Perthes disease, but fell into wheelchair basketball at the 2012 Paralympics in London. Whilst recovering from surgery, Leah saw the action on TV in hospital, and wanted to give it a go. Loving it from the moment she stepped out on court, she felt like she belonged. The inclusive nature of the sport, with other people her age having similar medical conditions, helped Leah feel at home. After starting at Wakefield Whirlwinds, a move to Sheffield Steelers beckoned and helped propel the 2.0er into the 2016 Paralympics game squad that travelled to Rio. After some time away from the sport, Leah is back in the chair for a return to basketball and is raring to get going to Cardiff Met Archers. “I am super excited to see what this team can do. We’ve got some great young talented basketball players and I’m really looking forward to playing again.”
